Guts
Of Darkness (CAN)
I liked Erik Seifert music when my ears crossed A Trip to Nebula Cluster
for the first time last year. What a wonderful CD, full of rhythm and
melodious lines. An opus that I can easily recommend to any fan of
Software (Mergener Weisser) and Peter Seiler melodic music.
Thus it is with haste that I wanted to hear Aotearoa, and the waiting was
worth the sorrow. Not as easy listening as A Trip, Aotearoa needs more
listening. A sign that shows a much more finicky work. I think it's more
worked than his previous recordings. It's a superb musical voyage in New
Zealand.
From Waitomo to Te Moeka O Tuawe Seifert draws 7 titles where the tribal
influences mix with ease with its synthetic arrangements and its
harmonious direction. As far as I'm concern, it's his best and more
complete work to date.
But doesn't we say that to each new opus, from any artists? In this case,
it's more than truth. Seifert brings a particular touch with its usual
beautiful harmonious sequences and the spiritual breaths of the first
territories peoples. Aotearoa is a pretty good musical voyage. A title
where the beats and the melodic rhythms are amalgamated with astonishing
percussions and great arrangements as surprising as intense. If you like
the melodic rhythm, the percussions and harmonious arrangements, with a
zest of ambient, Aotearoa is made for you.
